Course Offerings

Digital Photography

Students will submerge themselves in the craft of digital photography by learning a hands-on approach to composing, lighting, and exploring the settings on their cameras while shooting various related subject matter. Assigned briefs will be given so that each participant can fully explore the huge genre of color and black and white photography and learn to achieve the style and professionalism of photography they want from their work. Training in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom with instruction on how to maintain good work-flow and editing skills will be offered, but will not be required. Kelli Abdoney works as a freelance photographer and exhibits her fine art landscape work locally.

Write Yourself Right: A Guide to Cultivating a Successful College Essay

Take some uncertainty out of the college admission process! Brainstorm ideas and develop a foundation for your college essays through daily journal writing, a close look at and cultivation of responses to both general and specific essay prompts, and a crash course on the grammar mechanics essential to good writing with guidance from Jenny Burkholder. Jenny Burkholder taught English at Abington Friends School for sixteen years. Now, she is a freelance writer. She has a chapbook of poems, titled Repaired (Finishing Line Press, 2016), and her creative nonfiction has appeared in So to Speak: A Feminist Journal of Language and Art, The Healing Muse, among othersCurrently, she's on the creative nonfiction board of Philadelphia Stories. For this class, she looks forward to helping students to tell their stories and craft their college essays. 

This course will also include tips and guidance on the changing college admission landscape from Director of College Guidance Tim Gallen, immediate past president of Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling, as well as a guest appearance from a college admissions officer. Some reading and writing to be done outside of class. 1 credit.

Health - Registration FULL

This course provides an opportunity for students to learn about nutrition and fitness, drug use and abuse, lifestyle choices, reproductive health, sexually transmitted diseases, birth control, environmental health issues, and other topics surrounding a person's physical and psychological well-being. Confers one credit upon successful completionHealth is a 3-week class that runs from June 28-July 16.
